Cleveland and the Emerald Necklace

In the past, Cleveland, Ohio was the deemed "the mistake by the lake," but this is no longer the case. Over the last few decades, the city of Cleveland has worked really hard to turn around the city's image. While the city may still be the butt of many jokes around the country, there is actually a lot the city has to offer. For those who are into budget travel, the city with the Emerald Necklace may be a good idea.

The Emerald Necklace

If you haven't looked closely at a map, you may not have realized that the city of Cleveland, Ohio is surrounded by a pretty spectacular parks system. This "ring of green" around the city is commonly referred to as the "Emerald Necklace," one of the wonders of the city. The Cleveland Metroparks system is actually one of the largest continuous parks throughout a city in all of America. This little known "gem" in Cleveland is just one of the reasons to travel here.

Cleveland for Budget Travel

Here are some other reasons to consider Cleveland for your next vacation.

  • Sports - From the Cleveland Browns to the Indians to the Cavs, there are many sports events in the city. Known by some as "Believeland," the city is well known for rooting for their sports teams.
  • Inexpensive - Some may call it "cheap," but any way you look at it, you are going to spend less money when traveling to Cleveland than if you went to someplace like Chicago or New York City. Even though the price is low, there is still a lot to do.
  • Theaters and Art - There are many theaters and art museums throughout the city, meaning there is something for you to do no matter what you're into.
  • The Lake - Whether it's swimming, boating, fishing or other water activities, Lake Erie provides fun and adventure for those who travel to Cleveland.
  • Rock and Roll - Last but certainly not least, there's the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Some would say this is the highlight of the city, but if you love Rock and Roll, you're going to want to spend at least a day or two here.

As you can see from this very short list, there are quite a few things to do once you're in Cleveland. When you add in the fact that it's so inexpensive to get there (and stay there), you can see why so many people are heading there for vacation.
