Anyone seeking for both water and land adventures will find it when they take a Palawan tour. A Palawan tour is Philippines pride that helps the country's tourism industry flourish.

Palawan is known to be the last ecological frontier of the Philippines. The natural beauty of Palawan is an inviting sight which attracts thousands of visiting tourists annually. Because of the flourishing tourism industry in Palawan, hotels and restaurants are blooming businesses here where Palawan tour packages are available at a reasonable price.

Palawan Island is rich with ecological attractions where many kinds of fauna and flora are seen. You may choose to start your Palawan tours from the southern or northern part of the Palawan Island.

Northward Palawan tour destination will give you unlimited choices of activities to do. If you crave for wreck diving, then Coron Palawan you should go. Many Japanese shipwrecks during the World War II sunk in this northern coast of Coron Palawan. Palawan - The Island Paradise

Few places in the Philippines, indeed in all of Southeast Asia, can compare with Palawan. Throughout the years it has remained consistently one of the top tourist spots in the continent.

Among the numerous attractions of the island, nothing is perhaps nire enthralling than its sheer bio diversity. Not only are there all kinds of creatures in the island, but over 200 of them are unique to it. The pheasant peacock, bearcat and ant eater are just among the species that can only be seen on the island. There are over 500 different types of butterflies in Palawan alone.

Moreover, the flora is just as extensive, with over 1,500 plants and flowers. Unlike in other parts of the country where deforestation is rampant, the forest cover in Palawan is still over 50%, in large part due to conservation efforts on the part of both the local government and its citizens.

There are an endless number of nature spots in Palawan worth checking out, several of which have been designated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Among the most prominent is the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park. Its most outstanding feature is the river which runs in an underground cave. The river will then go up and converge with the open sea. This connection has made it a natural breeding ground for an entire ecosystem.

The Tubbataha Reef Marine Park is a reserve encompassing the south and north atoll reefs. The coral reef is full of unique and diverse marine life and at the same time the atoll is home to other types of animals including sea turtles.

While tourism plays a vital role in the economy of Palawan, it is not the only source of income of the province. With its well protected environment, it has become a great source of all kinds of fish. Nearly half of the fish supply in Metro Manila stems from Palwan. Another important source of income is logging. However, the continuous replanting in the province ensures that the forests remain strong.

Other vital industries in Palawan include the mining and production of such resources as sugar, coconut, corn and more. These products are shipped throughout the country, providing income for the province.

Equally as diverse are the people and the culture; there are several tribes and minorities that still flourish, including the Batak, Molbog and Palawano groups. Aside from these tribes, there is also a significant Muslim segment in the population and of course, several other peoples from all over the country have made the island province their home.

The mix of peoples in Palawan has resulted in a growing diversity in the religious practices as well. Although the bulk of the population are still Roman Catholics (as is most of the Philippines), there are a growing number of Protestants in the province, including Methodists, Seventh Day Adventists and Mormons. Other Christian sects like the Iglesia ni Cristo and El Shaddai can be found there.

In the southern part are located those who adhere to Islam, and there are also Buddhists in various locations, due mostly to the number of Vietnamese who have settled on the island.

Romancing Kidapawan, Cotabato Philippines

The clouds here in Kidapawan City were as gloomy as my feelings the day I arrived here a few weeks ago. I dreaded the day when I finally have to go to Kidapawan for my nursing review. It was supposed to be in Davao. My friends and I already made arrangements for our review in Davao City. But fate intervened. Our school administrators decided that we will be having our review at Kidapawan, in spite of our vehement protests. I had no qualms on the choice of the review center. After all, East West Educational Specialists is a reputable review center with an impeccable track record. But Kidapawan City as the review venue was another story.

When one hasn't made a visit to a particular place, one normally has a biased on that place usually basing on what one has read about the place or has heard about it. The same can be said about me and Kidapawan. I always thought of it as parochial and quite rural. From Cotabato going to Davao, Kidapawan has always been a sort of stop-over. Its fruits had always beckoned us to have a second look at Kidapawan. But that's as far as it goes. All had in mind about Kidapawan are its fruits. Ergo, it's a City of fruits only with nothing else to offer.

My biases were reinforced on the day we arrived here in Kidapawan City. Like I said earlier, the weather did not cooperate. It was raining heavily. So all I saw was the pension house in which we will be billeted for the rest of our stay here. I wish I could say that our dormitory is everything it should be. But I learned already that in life one cannot have what one wishes. To be happy, a great French philosopher Fr. Marie-Dominique Philippe has said again and again, one has to learn to accept in stride what life has to offer and make the best out of it. So with that in mind, I was ready to embrace my life here in Kidapawan for the next five months.

Colegio de Kidapawan is a community college privately owned and funded with all the modern facilities of a school one normally finds in a much cosmopolitan city. I chuckled upon learning that the school is even a wi-fi zone. Their nursing laboratory and library were equally impressive. What made a definite mark was when I noticed that the students were quite disciplined. From where I came from students were as boisterous as anywhere else. JV and Abby, two of my closest friends, even noted that the environment is quite remarkable.

We were given a warm welcome by their dean. She even told us to approach her for any queries and problems we might encounter. After all, she was our clinical coordinator back in Cotabato City. The students of Colegio are determined and hardworking. My fellow reviewees from Cotabato City could learn so much from them. Our seatmates Chari, Richard and Sheila even became friends. They told us where to dine, shop and everything else. When I had questions all I have to do is to text them and they were more than willing to answer them. I get inspired from them to study harder when I see them review with all their heart.

That is why I believe that Kidapawan is destined to become a great city, far greater even than Cotabato City. It is not because of its annual fruit festival or even its many springs and other tourist attractions, but its people, who are warm, hospitable, friendly, resilient, determined, honest and hardworking, are the one making it a city to beat. Come to think of it I wouldn't mind settling here for good.

Peru Packages: The Frozen Lady of Arequipa

With its white washed buildings made from sillar, a local volcanic stone, Arequipa, second largest town of Peru, is one of the most beautiful cities in the country and home to many fascinating remnants of Inca history. Most Peru packages will take you to this wonderful place, where it is truly a pleasure to stroll down the shaded streets and admire the delicate architecture. History enthusiasts will delight in the countless attractions of this city, among which the Juanita Mummy, also known as the Ice Maiden, which you cannot miss on your Arequipa explorations.

Juanita is the frozen body of an Inca girl, believed to have lived the 15th century between 1450 and 1480. She was discovered on Mount Ampato in the nearby Colca Valley by anthropologist Johan Reinhard in 1995. Also known as the Frozen Lady or the Lady of Ampato, Juanita is remarkably well preserved which made her an important discovery, even ranked among the top 10 world discoveries of 1995.

The Ice Maiden was discovered following a series of volcanic eruptions in the regions which melted the ice on top of the mountain and allowed her grave to be uncovered. She was luckily found before her body started to degenerate, allowing for great conservation.

The excellent preservation of the body allowed for several biological tests that gave new and fascinating insights into the Inca way of life. Juanita is believed to have been between 14 and 15 years old when she was sacrificed to the gods, as next to her body were found several ceremonial offerings also very well preserved. You can admire her alpaca shoes together with fine ceramic items as well as gold and silver idols dressed in feathers. The meaning of these offerings has yet to be established.

The Museum holding Juanita is located on Arequipa's main square, Plaza de Armas. Learn more about the great Inca Empire by paying a visit to this fascinating Museum, and if you are not too frightened, step into the temperature controlled room to take a look at Juanita's body.

Peru Tours: Santa Catalina Monastery in Arequipa

Your Peru tours cannot be complete without a stop of a day or two in beautiful Arequipa, Peru's second largest city and probably one of the most beautiful. Known as the White City for its white washed buildings made of sillar, a local volcanic stone, Arequipa is home to many fascinating attractions that will without a doubt amaze you.

One of the most exciting sights of Arequipa is the spectacular Monasterio de Santa Catalina, a must-see on any traveler's list to Arequipa. This magnificent monastery, secluded behind gigantic adobe walls, was built in 1580 and extended in the 17th century, and covers more than 20,000 square meters.

Admire the architecture, predominantly from the Mudejar style, which reflects the fusion between Spanish and native influences, making this city and particularly Santa Catalina, a unique place. The walls are also adorned with vivid paintings. The convent itself is built with the local sillar stone, as well as ashlar, petrified volcanic ash from Volcano Chachani, which overlooks Arequipa.

Within the monastery, you will see an odd construction known as the citadel. This was built after a series of earthquakes destroyed much of the convent's properties. The citadel holds private cells for the nuns whose dormitories were damaged by natural elements. At one time, the monastery was home to over 450 nuns and their servants. Today, only 20 nuns remain, and the rest of the convent is open to the public.

Originally, residents were mainly criollas and daughters of curacas, Indian chieftains. Other women also entered the monastery to live as lay persons apart from the world. As time passed, the monastery grew to attract women of wealth and social standing who entered the novitiate or as lay residents. While outwardly renouncing the world and embracing a life of poverty, they actually enjoyed a very luxurious way of life until the mid-1800s when reform where implemented.

Try not to get lost in this enormous building, as you walk down narrow streets named for Spanish locales, pass through arched colonnades surrounding courtyards, some with fountains, flowering plants and trees. Linger in the several churches and chapels, or in one of the plazas comprising the monastery.

This guide to the Santa Catalina Monastery in Arequipa was written by a Peru travel expert at Peru For Less available to help you custom design exciting and adventurous Peru tours.

Its national economy is the 47th largest in the world, with an estimated 2008 gross domestic product (GDP) of over US$ 168.6 billion (nominal). There are more than 11 million overseas Filipinos worldwide, about 11% of the population.

The Philippines provides a high environment of natural resources in areas such as agriculture, nature, and minerals. It has fertile lands, diverse flora, and fauna, extensive coastlines, and rich mineral deposits.Endemic species include the tamaraw of Mindoro, and the tarsier of Bohol. The Philippines have a lack of predators, with the exception of snakes, such as pythons, cobras, and birds of prey, such as the national bird, known as the Philippine eagle. Other native animals include the palm civet cat, the Mouse deer, the Visayan warty pig, and several species of bats.

Rainforests boasts an array of flora, including several types of orchids, and rafflesia. The narra is considered as the most important type of hardwood while banyan trees or the balete. The islands' major crops include rice, corn, sugarcane, coconut, abaca, and tobacco. Rice is the most important source of food along with corn. The coconut, mango, watermelon, and other native fruits are an important contributor to the nation's income.

Here are some attractions you might want to see when vacationing in the Philippines.

Banaue Rice Terraces

The Ifugaos built the Banaue Rice Terraces more than 2,000 years ago. It is about 5,000 feet above sea level and covers about 400 square miles of mountainside. This beautiful engineering of mankind is very unique in every sense of the word. They believed that the Batad ancestors of Ifugao carved this "staircase to the sky" with minimal tools and mainly used their hands to put the walls up one stone at a time.

Chocolate Hills in Bohol

These perfectly cone-shaped hills are a subject of debate whether it is an act of God or if they are manmade. There are about 1,268 hills and they are very much uniformed.During the rainy season, the hills are actually green. However, venture to them during the hot days of summer and they turn into a chocolate color-hence the name.

Intramuros in Metro Manila

Intramuros used to be the center of political, religious and military power during the Spanish era. This walled city in Manila was built on the ruins of a Malay settlement some 400 years ago. It was home for thousands of Spanish colonists and their families during those times. The walls suffered a tremendous damage during WWII. The Philippine government restored and reconstructed Intramuros in 1980 and it's now a major tourists attraction in Manila.

Sri Lanka Attractions: Sri Lanka National Museum

Sri Lanka is becoming an increasingly popular place for tourists to take an excursion. Located off the South East corner of the coast of India, the island nation of Sri Lanka has had its fair share of unrest and turmoil. The infamous Tamil Tigers have been at the center of rumored political problems that have resulted in violence throughout the country. Despite security issues in the small island, the capital city of Colombo has remained restful. Guarded borders surround the region just outside the city so that city dwellers and tourists can avoid ay troubles with the violence taking place just outside. Colombo is built on one of Sri Lanka's busiest seaports and as such is easily excluded from the rest of the island.

Sri Lanka, and especially Colombo is a strange mix of colonial ruins and modern day metropolitan infrastructure. The skyline of the city seen from afar is one of impressive skyscrapers, steel bridges and a sense of indestructible power. Once inside the city, however, you will find an unusual array of traditional wood painted landmarks beneath the shadows of political and financial ambition. Colombo hotels provide refuge as will as give insight into the country's modern advancement. Business people from around the globe can be seen here as Sri Lanka's political leaders attempt to leap the country forward into the modern day financial market.

If the history of Sri Lanka and how Colombo became to be the modern ideal of Western world is of interest to you, then be sure to visit the National Museum. The museum was established in 1877 by British Governor of Sri Lanka at the time, Sir William Henry Gregory. At the end of the 19th century, Sri Lanka was still known as Ceylon. It was the Royal Asiatic Society that helped appoint and Sir Gregory as well as aid him in his quest to develop the country's first collection of historical artifacts.

Built in a charming merge of classic Italian architecture and British parliament style sensibility, the all-white museum is home to a number of special research sub-divisions. In the ethnology department you will find coins, currency, and stone antiquities as well as jewelry and rare pieces of ivory. Weapons, paintings and antiquities all the way from China make the museum a well-rounded and interesting place to amuse over afternoon tea.

The anthropology wing is dedicated to the evolution of household utensils as specially made objects used during Sri Lankan religious rituals, providing unique insight into the ways of the ancient world prior to the spread of Age of Reason. Originally carved musical instruments also make for an educational and fun part of the museum. Music lovers are sure to find intrigue in the ways in which ancient tribes with nothing but wood and knives were able to create such beautiful and beloved sounds so dear to the Sri Lankan culture. Dance costumes, games, and medical instruments also make up this division turning it into a virtual tunnel into humanity's not so distant evolutionary past.

Under sciences, the museum lists botany, entomology, zoology and geology as areas of special research. Sri Lanka is home to a large array of flora and fauna, some of which has been listed as endangered thanks to research done by the museum and its local associates. The museum often hosts temporary exhibits showing off some of the country's most prized plants. The museum also boasts a whopping ten thousand item insect collection in its entomology department and has been working along side the Smithsonian Institute in the United States to help preserve he history of Sri Lanka's rare and exotic creatures.

January is Holy Child Festival Month- Sinulog

Sinulog Viva Pet Senior!!

The month of the January in the Philippines is devoted to festivities honoring the Holy Child. The Filipino term is called "Santo NiƱo" in which it is common to them.

To give readers and viewers as a background, Holy Child started during the time of the Spanish colonization. The image of the Holy Child has a very colorful chapter in the country's religious history, which dates back to 1521 when the Portugese explorer Ferdinand Magellan accidentally discovered the archipelago in the Far East.

After Magellan was slain by Lapu-Lapu in the Battle of Mactan, not much as heard about the image except that the Cebuanos worshipped the Santo NiƱo as a "rain God" and dance the sinulog to the beat of drums interspersed with shouts of Pit Senyor which means Hail The Lord!

When Miguel Lopez de Legaspi arrived 40 years later and conquered the islands for the Spanish crown, the Cebuanos fled to the hills after razing their homes. In one of the burned houses, a Spanish soldier was said to have found the statue of the Santo NiƱo hidden in a large wooden chest spared by the fire.

Legazpi later named Cebu the "City of the Most Holy Name of Jesus" in honor of the religious icon. It was enshrined in a church built in its honor, which later became a basilica. Until now, this Church still exist and a strong foundation with non-stop devotees.

Some of the people believe once they believe in Catholic faith from Holy Child, they can heal and save lives but some Catholic leaders believe in Virgin Mary as the Mother of God. This is more on faith in the month of January.

In Dumaguete, there are several Holy Child scattered in a different barangays. The most famous Holy Child is found in Mangga located in the part of Meciano road in which many devotees are going there bringing candles to save their faith. This event happens in the month January, in which that is their beginning festival for their barrio. May is another area for their celebration area that is exclusive for their respective barangay.

This article supposed to be is in the editorial level but the don't worry for the readers and viewers, this is categorized by news because it has an information to know or discover. This is sub-categorized by free journalism because I believe that there is freedom of the press.

With the Holy Child's more than 400 years of cultural linkage with our history, it is common that we celebrate the various feasts in His honor that are being celebrated throughout this month of January.

The most popular Holy Child related celebrated though is Aklan which is called Ati-Atihan festival, which is now being rerplicated throughout the country during this month of January and during town fiestas. It's origins can be traced to the 13th century when ten datus which are known as chieftains from Borneo landed in the Province of Antique to purchased the island of Panay, where Aklan is included, that is from Marikudo, the island's Ati which is their aborigine ruler. The deal was closed after Marikudo accepted a golden salakot which is the gourd headgear and a golden necklace for his wife, Maniwantiwan. After the purchase, the warring tribes of Aklan ended their protracted feud and celebrated the event by dancing to the rhythmic beat of gongs.

This is very common in Cebu, Iloilo, Dumaguete, Manila, and other major places in the Philippines about the festival of Holy Child.

The Philippines, one of the premier travel destinations in the Asia-Pacific region, is at the forefront of countries banking on colorful festivals to promote its rich culture and heritage. Almost everyday there is an event celebrating a momentous occasion in the country such as a town fiesta or a feast of a local patron saint or a patroness. These fascinating festivals, according to experts, prove that Filipinos are fun-loving people.

Festivals, both cultural and religious in nature, are celebrated all year round across the country's three main island groups - Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Every region, province, city, municipality, and barangay has its own way of merrymaking. That's why most Philippine travel guides declare that there are countless ways to enjoy and explore the beauty of this archipelago of 7,107 islands.

Festivals are considered a primary engine for driving the tourism industry aside from the country's unspoiled beaches and other man-made and natural attractions. Held during the Holy Week in Marinduque, the festival is highlighted by a parade participated in by people wearing colorful masks and garbs replicating that of the biblical Roman soldiers. A similar celebrated is held in Valencia, Spain, in April.

The spotlight shifts to Lucban, Quezon, every 15th day of May, when this second-class municipality hosts the Pahiyas Festival. On this day, a street of houses is adorned with various agricultural produce and colorful rice ornaments called kiping. Pahiyas Festival is held in honor of St. Isodore, the patron saint of farmers.

Held every third week of August, local folks go out on the streets and celebrate a bountiful yield in various ways, such street dancing competitions, parades of decorated floats, and power boat races. Dubai Hotel Guide - Hotels in Dubai For All Likings and Budgets

Planning a stay in Dubai for your business meeting or family vacation? Not a problem! Being the newest and preferred business and tourist destination of the world, Dubai offers a wide variety of hotels and accommodations.

Hundreds of hotels ranging from cheap hotels to the world's only 7 star hotel (Burj Al Arab) are scattered across Dubai. More are still under development in the everyday ongoing construction such as the Burj Dubai. All the Dubai hotels comply with the unified system set by the Dubai Tourism authorities to ensure quality service and facilities.

The most famous Dubai luxury hotel is the Burj Al Arab, which is the only seven star hotel in the world. It is built in a form of a billowing sail. This luxury hotel soars as high as 321 meters above the Arabian Gulf.

Situated in the Jumeirah Beach area, this hotel is currently one of the world's finest luxury hotels if not the finest. This high-rise building that dominates the coastline of Dubai is seen from different sides of Dubai and offers amazing color sculptures of fire and water at night.

The special services of this hotel include luxury chauffeur driven limousine airport transfers in Rolls Royce, private golf cart rides when going to adjacent properties, and private hotel staffs for all rooms. The hotel was designed to serve the International Elite class with its excellent facilities that offer complete privacy and security for their top-rank customers.

The Burj Al Arab also offers sporting activities such as kayaking, surfing, sailing, paragliding, windsurfing, and deep sea fishing. Those who can afford to have a luxurious stay in Dubai can book online at the Dubai Tourism or at the Burj Al Arab websites.

Those who want luxury at more affordable prices can try other luxury hotels in Dubai such as the Jumeirah Beach Hotel, Raffles Dubai, Jumeirah Emirates Towers Dar Al Masyaf at Madinat Jumeirah, and many more. The Five Star Alliance, the alliance of luxury hotels recommends in their website the 27 luxury hotels in Dubai including the previously named Dubai hotels.

A cheap hotel in Dubai (or should I say discounted hotels) is more affordable for budget conscious tourists and are also available in all areas of Dubai. Shopping for these hotels can be done online where you can book one right away when you find it.

Aside from the current hotels in Dubai, more hotels are still to be completed in nearly halfway developments such as the Burj Dubai and in Bawadi. The Burj Dubai will be home to more luxury hotels such as the signature boutique Armani hotel. Bawadi, being one of the biggest entertainment walkways in the world will give way to the construction of 51 hotels more in the Bawadi projects.

These hotels are available in boutique, themed, and resort hotels that include the prospected world's largest hotel, the Asia-Asia Hotel. Theme hotels will include Universal, Asian, American (countries), African, European, and Middle Eastern.

And with all that said, don't forget the Dubai hotel apartments. The Bur Dubai area is loaded with these. These are like the extended stay hotels you are used to seeing in North America (Residence Inn's and Towne Place Suites), except they are MUCH better.

These hotel apartments are truly luxurious with most of them with marble flooring. I suppose it is meant to give you a taste of what it would be like to live in a Dubai high rise apartment or condo. I have stayed at many of these and definitely recommend it as an alternative. I mostly recommend this if you are traveling to Dubai with your family (kids).

Dubai will be much more worth visiting if you book in one of its quality hotels. Hotel booking will be made easier and safer when done with the Dubai Tourism accredited hotels whether a luxury hotel or the more affordable ones. Dubai hotels will surely give you the services and amenities that will make you feel completely at home. Once you get there, you will see how easily it is to call Dubai your home (at least for the time being).

Visit http://www.Dubai-Information-Site.com for the best deals on Dubai hotels. The site has partnered with hand-picked agencies in Dubai to offer the best deals at the lowest prices up to 60% off!

One you can try is the Nokomis Beach. This one is currently situated Nokomis, Florida. This beach is on a barrier island called Casey Key. Most houses are actually built just in the beachfront where people can enjoy their break without having to transport to other places.

There are commercial services and refreshment stands available. As most beaches have, lifeguards are always nearby to make sure the safety of the place.

Tale of African Snakes

Many people are scared of snakes and to many, a snake is a snake, all are dangerous and deserve death. However, most snake species are completely harmless! In fact, about 80% of all snakes' species in the world are non-venomous and perform important ecological functions as controllers of rodent- pest populations. Thus knowing how to identify snakes is a vital part of our lives and conservation education.

The wilds of Africa are often associated with snakes and rightly so, but, unfortunately, usually for the wrong reasons. Africa is well known amongst herpetologists and snake lovers for the interesting variety of species of which some are unfortunately highly priced in the pet trade.Although many of the African snakes' species are completely harmless to humans, this region also hold some of the worlds most deadly snakes.

The Black and Green Mamba, Puff Adder, Cobra, Boomsland, and Saw-scaled Vipers are some of the worlds most deadly snakes and deserve a great deal of respect. In east Africa, there are close to 200 species of snakes. Of these 200, 47 are considered dangerous to humans, 45 are venomous and two are large constrictors (two species of pythons very similar in appearance). Of the 47 dangerous species mentioned, 18 species are known to have killed people.

Kenya is home to several of the most dangerous species for example, the Puff Adder (Bitis arietans), Black-necked Spitting cobra (Naja nigricollis) and Black Mamba (Dendroaspis polylepis). However, Kenya is also home to many harmless species that feed on rats and mice that consume maize, millet and rice, the stable diet of the people of Kenya. The simplest way of describing snakes is whether a snake is Harmless, Mildly Venomous or Dangerous.

Some snakes have no venom and are completely harmless like the Brown House Snake. Others like large pythons may be non-venomous but are still considered dangerous.Sand snakes (genus Psammphis) are considered mildly venomous. This means that the venom is strong enough to subdue or kill its prey, like a small lizard, but not strong enough to kill an adult human. However, one should still be careful around these fast moving serpents.

Young children or adults that have allergic reactions could suffer severe symptoms from the bite of a sand snake!In general, African is home to an abundance of different snake species. From its deserts to savannahs, the African landscape is home to an enormous variety of extremely beautiful and potentially dangerous snakes. Below are some of the most popular snake classification;
Colubridae / Colubrids - A Colubrid is a snake that is a member of the Colubridae family.

It is a broad classification of snakes that includes well over half of all snake species on earth. While most colubrids are non-venomous (or have venom that isn't known to be harmful to humans) and are normally harmless, a few groups, such as genus Boiga, Coluber and Rhabdophis, can produce medically significant bites. In addition, the Boomslang and African Twig Snake have both caused human fatalities. The venom-injecting fangs associated with venomous colubrids are almost always in the back of the mouth, compared to vipers and elapids.

In North America, all snake species in the colubridae family are generally harmless to humans. Please note: This list does not currently include sub-species.

Elapidae/ Elapids (Venomous) - The cobra family is thought to have evolved from Colubrid snakes and many appear very similar in appearance with long, slender bodies and large scales (plates) on the head. They differ in having more advanced venom delivery systems than the venomous Colubrids. Elapids have fangs that are "effectively tubular" in that the fangs contain grooves that are enclosed by an infolding of the edges.

The fangs are in the front of the mouth rather than the rear as is seen in venomous Colubrids. The Elapidae contains some of the world's most dangerous snakes including cobras (Naja), mambas (Dendroaspis) and sea snakes (Hydophinae and Laticaudinae). Elapids are found worldwide and in Ausralia is the predominant family. In North America, three species of elapids are found, two species of coral snakes and one sea snake. The coral snakes are relatively small snakes that spend most of their time underground. Their primary food is other snakes. Despite their small size and small fangs, their venom is extremely toxic.

Viperidae / Vipers (Venomous) - The vipers are generally considered to be the most advanced family of snakes since they possess a very sophisticated venom delivery system. Large tubular fangs are placed in the front of the mouth and they are hinged, allowing them to be folded back when not in use. Their heads are covered with numerous small scales and their eyes have vertically eliptical pupils.

What to do when you meet a snake?

First of all, except for the slow-snakes like puff adders, you will generally see a snake swiftly pass by you, not even enough time to take a photo. That being a general rule, always leave snakes alone, don't touch them unless you are a professional snake handler. Like all wildlife, they deserve their respect and distance from our interference. Except for cases where human-pet life is in danger, leave them alone, unless it is absolutely necessary to have them moved. Have a wonderful day and enjoy these earths' beautiful creatures.
