Best Ski Resort For All Ages and Levels of Experience

Skiing is a very popular sport in the wintertime, and there's no better place to enjoy it than it Big Sky Country. There are a total of sixteen ski resorts throughout Montana, three of which are located in the Great Falls, MT area. One of the most popular is the Showdown Ski Resort, which is located about 65 miles south of Great Falls.

Located in the Little Belt Mountains, Showdown Ski Resort has been around since 1936 and is known for its 100% natural snow and beautiful scenery. The highest elevation is 8,200 feet, and the base itself is 6,800 feet, which is actually higher than a lot of other ski park summits. Skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts can appreciate the Intermediate and Expert terrains, while beginners can take advantage of classes that can teach even those who have never seen snow before how to ski or snowboard.

Showdown is currently offering a Learn to Ski for Free program for those who are at least seven years of age and have never skied. There is a beginner lift that works sort of like a conveyor belt. It leads up to Golden Goose, the beginners' hill that allows first timers to get the hang of things before they go on to become skiing experts.

For those who have been skiing for a while and are already at expert level, Showdown has a Terrain Park that features areas to try out tricks and obstacles sure to provide a fun, full day for any experienced snow lover.

Lift tickets are available for $35 for adults, and the rates go down from there for Seniors, children, or half days passes. There's plenty of affordable lodging in the Little Belt Mountains, so you can get a good night's rest and wake up bright and early to hit the slopes again.

There are options at Showdown for family members or friends who either don't want to ski or have tired themselves out. The Lodge includes T-Bar Coffee, where you can relax with a cup of hot chocolate or a latte and a snack. The Hill Grill is a great place to grab breakfast or lunch. There's also the Hole in the Wall Saloon, which features beer, wine, and live music.

If you have small children with you, there is a daycare inside the Lodge that is sure to provide a great time for the little ones while you are off enjoying yourself on the slopes.
